As cleanup efforts are still underway for a massive fire that displaced dozens in Bushwick earlier this month, the Department of Environmental Protection confirmed that some of the buildings in that fire have asbestos. One displaced tenant told News 12 they learned they may have been exposed to asbestos during the fire that started at Christa’s Kitchen. The tenant showed News 12 a photo of an asbestos tent set up outside of 63 Cooper Street the night after the May 1 fire. The DEP has not expanded on how many buildings in particular contain asbestos.
