A Chinese national is facing jail time for allegedly exporting hundreds of protected turtles to Hong Kong, according to the United States Justice Department. Wei Qiang Lin, of Brooklyn, pleaded guilty to falsely labeling live turtles as fake toys and shipping them in delivery boxes to Hong Kong. Around 222 parcels containing 850 turtles were exported between August 2023 and November 2024, according to court documents. The turtles were intercepted during a border inspection, officials say. The turtles were bound and taped inside knotted socks. More on this from Pix 11.
