Brooklyn Man Indicted in QR code Parking Fraud Scheme

Mihai Theodor Enescu, 39, faces five counts of identity theft and six counts of criminal impersonation. He is accused of placing stickers on parking meters across Manhattan that led people to a phony site instead of the official “PARKNYC.”

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., and Department of Investigation (DOI) Commissioner Nadia I. Shihata say a Brooklyn man was indicted for allegedly carrying out a QR code parking fraud scheme. Mihai Theodor Enescu, 39, faces five counts of identity theft and six counts of criminal impersonation. He is accused of placing stickers on parking meters across Manhattan that led people to a phony site instead of the official “PARKNYC.” Prosecutors say the fake site prompted users to enter financial information, including credit card numbers.
