Two officers spotted Reed and 58-year-old Bernard Bamberg trying to break into a vehicle at the corner of Georgia Ave. and Pitkin Ave. in Brownsville about 8:55 p.m., cops said.
When the cops tried to stop Reed and Bamberg, Reed jumped into another vehicle — a stolen van — and drove at the officers, police said.
The officers opened fire, hitting Reed in the leg. It was unclear from the police narrative where the officers were standing when the bullet hit Reed.
