Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has hired back the 70 workers it laid off in early February, 40 of whom were employed at its Downtown Brooklyn location.
The NYC Alamo United union said Alamo "offered a tentative agreement,” according to a Tuesday post on Instagram. The deal guarantees every worker to be rehired, gain back paid time off and sick time, and retain their original seniority and hire date, the union said.
Workers went on strike for 58 days and are set to return to work today.
“Together, we showed Sony and Alamo who REALLY has the power – the people, when we stand together, united,” the union said.
A source familiar with the layoffs told BK Reader that the company's offer to rehire staff was always on the table, especially during the spring when the company expected to see an uptick in business.
The union originally claimed that Alamo violated good faith bargaining by issuing layoffs during contract negotiations, subsequently filing an unfair labor practice charge against the company.
A representative of United Auto Workers Local 2179, the organization representing the Alamo union, could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
