Summer camp season is upon us.

Hey parents — it's that time of year again.

New York City's public schools officially close for summer on June 27, so it's time to find a fun summer program to help your kids to learn new skills, prevent learning loss and make friends for life.

Whether your camper is looking to sharpen their literacy and math skills, swim, dance, play sports, learn a language, explore the arts, perform in a play or connect with their cultural identities, there is a program in Brooklyn that will fit their needs. 

To demystify the process, BK Reader has pulled together a quick list of popular local programs that are still enrolling campers. Keep reading for information on how to apply. 

The Co-op School Summer Camp

Each week at this Bed-Stuy camp is chock full of exploratory fun. In this environmental learning program, students discover how the earth works and how humans can impact it. Each week at camp has a different theme: Summer Solstice, Going Green, Farm & Food, Trash & Treasure, Community Superheros, Water, Water Everywhere, Camp Kindness and Creative Action. Camp dates: June 20-August 11

Camp hours: 9:00am-3:00pm

Costs: Each week is $565 for full-day and $345 for half-day programs

Sprout Brooklyn

Sprout Brooklyn in Red Hook offers a vibrant Hebrew dual-language summer camp experience for children entering pre-K through fifth grade. This inclusive community fosters joy and energy among campers, with age-appropriate activities promoting teamwork, relationship building and personal growth. The program combines high-quality programming infused with Jewish values and experiential education, including robotics, sports, swimming, drama, art and additional exciting options including the Hebrew immersion program. Ages: Pre-K-fifth grade

Camp dates: June 28-August 18, divided into four two-week sessions.

Camp hours: 9:00am-4:00pm

Costs: $1200 for the first session, $1444 for all other sessions. Multi-session and sibling discounts are available.

SKATEYOGI Summer Camp

With locations in Williamsburg and Prospect Lefferts Gardens, SKATE YOGI Summer Camp offers a blend of indoor ramp skating in climate-controlled spaces and daily excursions to nearby parks and skate spots. SKATEYOGI Summer Camp welcomes skaters of all levels, from beginners to experienced. Younger aspiring skaters aged 5-7 can join the Little Kids Camp, while the outdoor Urban Shredders camp in Downtown Brooklyn (ages 9-15) meets at Golconda Skate Park and embarks on thrilling outdoor adventures throughout NYC every day.  Gear is provided for all on-site camps at SKATEYOGI locations. Camp hours: 8:30am-3:00pm, with some exceptions for different levels and ages.

Camp costs: Programs range from $495-$850 per week.

Camp Maritime Coney Island

Camp Maritime is a water sports camp and academy, offering instruction and an emphasis on experiential learning. Developed by lifelong sailors specifically for the unique waters of NYC, the comprehensive camp curriculum enables campers to learn a wide range of exciting water sports while fostering unshakable confidence, healthy challenges and lifelong friendships. With 12 water sports to explore — including flyboarding, surfing, wingboarding, fishing, windsurfing, skimboarding, kiting, kayaking, stand-up paddling and tubing — Camp Maritime even boasts a double-decker pontoon boat featuring a jump tower and trampoline.

Camp dates: June 26-Sept. 1

Camp hours: 8:30am-4:30pm

Costs: $725-$775

Penguin Coding

Penguin Coding believes in the accessibility of coding for everyone, offering engaging summer camps that go beyond coding to include Lego Robotics, three-dimensional printing and science experiments. With age-appropriate activities, campers aged 6-9 will explore Minecraft and Scratch, while campers ages 9-12 will delve into Roblox, JavaScript and Python. The program ensures a balanced experience with approximately 50% on-screen and off-screen activities, including lunch breaks at nearby parks. To enroll, click here.

Camp hours: 9:00am-3:00pm, with an option to extend the day until 5:00pm.

Textile Arts Center Summer Camp invites campers to immerse themselves in the world of contemporary and historical textiles through interactive and engaging week-long programs. With a focus on creativity and connection, campers collaborate on textile projects inspired by exhibitions and local artists, fostering a dynamic and inspiring environment. Each week introduces a unique theme, allowing campers to explore new techniques and develop their making skills while having fun and building lasting connections with their peers. Brooklyn Nets Basketball Academy Summer Camp

The Brooklyn Nets Basketball Academy is an exciting summer camp designed for boys and girls aged 6-14, offering an immersive experience in basketball infused with the unique spirit of Brooklyn.
