A new scholarship honoring the birthday and legacy of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm will support young New Yorkers to have their voices heard.

The Shirley Chisholm Cultural Institute’s Catalyst For Change Scholarship will award $1,000 to a young adult between the ages of 18 to 24 that should go towards amplifying their voice in politics, journalism or culture, the organization said.

Barbara Bullard, president of the SCCI, said the goal at SCCI was to support the growth and development of young thought leaders by community building in an array of disciplines.

“We are forever grateful for the legacy of Shirley Chisholm and the seeds of wisdom she has left behind.”

Applicants must submit a video introducing themselves along with an essay explaining “How are you a catalyst for change?” The SCCI Board and other community leaders will select the finalist for the cash award and the title of SCCI Catalyst for Change Ambassador.

Submissions close on Feb. 28, 2022. To apply, click here.
