U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is joining the Brooklyn Museum's Annual Children's Book Fair for a reading of her new picture book Bold and Brave: Ten Heroes Who Won Women the Right to Vote, the story of the suffragists who fought for women's right to vote, on Saturday, November 17.

In Bold and Brave, which features illustrations by renowned artist Maira Kalman, Gillibrand shares the stories of the ten leaders who strove to win the right to vote for American women, a journey that took more than 70 years. From well-known figures such as Susan B. Anthony and Sojourner Truth to lesser-known women such as Alice Paul and Mary Church Terrell, Gillibrand celebrates them as heroes who dreamed big and never gave up.

On the eve of the centennial of the 19th Amendment, which granted women suffrage, Bold and Brave looks both backward and forward. It introduces children to strong women who have raised their voices on behalf of justice--and inspires them to raise their own voices to build our future.

The reading is followed by a conversation with Gillibrand and Kalman, hosted by Aminatou Sow, co-founder of the global women's network TechLadyMafia and co-host of Call Your Girlfriend, a podcast for long-distance besties everywhere.

The afternoon culminates with a book signing with the senator and the artist.

Tickets are $16 and include museum admission. Bold and Brave: Ten Heroes Who Won Women the Right to Vote is available for purchase online with your ticket for $35 or on-site.
