If the words Brussel sprouts send you running to the hills, wait! This gingery combo will change even the most skeptical of minds.

And at just five ingredients (plus a little salt, pepper and water) there's no harm in making enough for everyone â€" even those who claim they're not interested. Plus these little green dumplings are high in fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, making them a nutritious addition to your diet.

If you find yourself wanting a little kick, add a sprinkle of red chili at the end.

  • 1 pound fresh Brussels sprouts (about 5-1/2 cups)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

  1. Trim Brussels sprouts and cut lengthwise in half, then cut crosswise into thin slices.
  2. Place a large cast-iron or other heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Add Brussels sprouts; cook and stir until sprouts begin to brown lightly, 2-3 minutes. Add oil and toss to coat.
  3. Stir in onion, ginger, garlic and salt and stir.
  4. Add water; reduce heat to medium and cook, covered, until vegetables are tender, 1-2 minutes. Stir in pepper.
