Justin Brannan, Kevin Peter Carroll, Vincent Chirico, the Rev. Khader El-Yateem and Nancy Tong are the Democratic candidates running for the 43rd City Council District

Less than a week until primary day, the Democratic candidates running for the 43rd City Council District, which includes Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst and Bath Beach, will meet for a final debate at a community candidate forum on Thursday, September 7. The forum will take place at the Bay Ridge Public Library, starting at 6:00pm, and is hosted by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

The five Democrats competing for the open City Council seat are Justin Brannan, former chief of staff to current Councilmember Vincent Gentile; Kevin Peter Carroll, an aide to Councilmember Stephen Levin; Vincent Chirico; the Rev. Khader El-Yateem; and Nancy Tong, an aide to Assemblymember William Colton.
Since 2003, the district has been represented by Councilmember Vincent Gentile whose seat is opening up because of New York City's term limits law. Gentile is running in the Democratic primary for Brooklyn district attorney against acting District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
The primaries are next Tuesday, September 12 and the general election will be held on November 7.
