Governor Kathy Hochul on April 18 announced a $30 million investment in electric vehicle adoption and charging infrastructure, part of New York’s ongoing push to make clean transportation more accessible and affordable across the state.

The funding, available through the Drive Clean Rebate and Charge Ready NY 2.0 programs, will provide point-of-sale rebates of up to $2,000 for consumers purchasing or leasing new EVs, according to a press release. Administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the rebates are available in all 62 counties and apply to more than 60 EV models.

“New York’s leadership in driving the adoption of electric vehicles is helping consumers stay within their budget when purchasing or leasing a new electric car,” Hochul said. “Along with increased savings, we are building out the infrastructure needed to provide hard-working New Yorkers convenient access to charging, helping to reduce range anxiety and make it easier to drive electric. These investments are key to building a cleaner future, lowering emissions and creating good-paying jobs.”

There are now incentives for installing EV chargers at multifamily residences, workplaces and hotels. Through Charge Ready NY 2.0, eligible locations can now receive up to $3,000 per charging port, and up to $4,000 per port in disadvantaged communities, as defined by the state’s Climate Justice Working Group.

To date, the Drive Clean Rebate program has issued over 190,000 rebates, supporting the growth of more than 280,000 EVs on New York roads. Charge Ready NY 2.0 has already backed the installation of more than 1,000 Level 2 chargers in the past year.
