The former Macy's building in Downtown Brooklyn will turn into BKX, a modern five-story retail and hospitality complex.

Real Estate firms United American Land, The Jackson Group and Dreamscape Retail & Entertainment on Monday unveiled plans for the 440,000-square-foot, five-story development that will house retail, entertainment, hospitality and experiential concepts.

BKX, at 422 Fulton St., will eventually house shops, restaurants, food halls, wellness concepts, cultural programming, and large-format branded experiences, the developers said. The outer layer of the complex will be glass with a central atrium, designed by the firm iCrave.

“When we acquired this property, we saw an opportunity to reimagine one of New York’s most iconic sites for the next generation,” Albert Laboz, principal of United American Land said in a statement. “Rather than pursuing a traditional retail redevelopment, we’re creating a destination that reflects how people want to spend time today – bringing together entertainment, dining, retail and community under one roof. BKX represents our belief in Downtown Brooklyn and its future as one of New York City's most dynamic mixed-use neighborhoods, where people come to live, work, learn and explore.”

The developers said the space will allow for a range of spaces that can be curated, allowing companies to create highly-customized environments with high ceilings and multiple levels.

"Consumers today are looking for more than a traditional shopping experience," said Joshua Strauss, president of Retail & Entertainment at Dreamscape. "They’re excited by places that blend retail, entertainment, dining, culture and community, and BKX has been envisioned to meet that demand under one roof, at a scale that simply doesn't exist elsewhere in New York."
