Buy Vintage, Shop Local at The PLG Stoop Sale

Every stoop has a story.

Neighbors across Prospect Lefferts Gardens are preparing to turn stoops and sidewalks into a sprawling community marketplace next month as The Great PLG Stoop and Sidewalk Sale returns for its third year.

Set for Sunday, June 7, from 11:00am to 4:00pm, with a rain date of June 14, the neighborhoodwide event will stretch across more than 22 blocks between Sterling Street and Clarkson Avenue, from Ocean and Nostrand avenues.

The sale has quickly grown into one of brownstone Brooklyn’s largest grassroots gatherings, drawing residents, shoppers and local businesses together for a day centered on community and secondhand treasures.

“I am so happy to see how the neighborhood embraced this idea and has catapulted it to a new level each year,” Chen said. “Stoop sales and Brooklyn go hand in hand, but they have always happened off on their own. Now there is a day each June where we can have this outdoor, communal experience together at the same time, across our incredible neighborhood, with residents of houses and apartment buildings and even business owners.”

The event will feature vintage housewares, furniture, clothing, original artwork, stage props and other finds pulled from attics and basements throughout the neighborhood.

Old-fashioned lemonade stands are also expected to line the route, while businesses along Flatbush, Rogers and Nostrand avenues plan to offer specials and participate in a neighborhood raffle.

The sale was launched in 2024 by Prospect Lefferts Gardens resident Jenn Chen as a way to strengthen neighborhood connections and create a shared outdoor experience. Since then, participation has expanded each year, with residents from apartment buildings, brownstones and local storefronts joining in.

The event has helped introduce neighbors who have lived near one another for years but never met. This year, nearly 30 volunteers helped distribute postcards and hang posters throughout the community ahead of the sale.

Several new additions are planned this year, including a raffle featuring prizes from local businesses, a mending station, a crafts station and pop-up live music performances.

“Folks who’ve lived practically next door to each other for years are meeting and chatting for the first time outside, and we’ve got a team of 29 neighbors helping put up event posters and distribute postcards. This event is about community, through and through,” said Chen, who is also founder and executive director of arts nonprofit Brooklyn FAM. This year’s poster art was created by local pun-loving, New York Times bestselling illustrator Steph Stilwell.

The Prospect Lefferts Gardens Neighborhood Association, or PLGNA, is also helping manage community contributions that support the event’s publicity budget and volunteer efforts.

Local illustrator Steph Stilwell, a New York Times bestselling artist, created poster art for the 2026 sale.
