A collective of local business owners, restaurateurs and venue proprietors of color are setting out to make Brooklyn a hot spot for the 2019 World Pride Celebration that is taking over New York City in June.

WorldPride takes place periodically in cities around the world, since its inaugural festival in Rome in 2000, and is one of the most anticipated celebrations for the LGBTQAI+ community. This year, to honor the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, a landmark moment in the queer liberation and gay rights movements in the United States, NYC will play host to what's destined to be one of the world's largest gatherings of love, pride and protest.

Beginning Saturday, June 8, curated under the umbrella of "Destination Brooklyn: Pride," more than 50 minority and women-owned businesses, creatives and promoters will provide events, live performances, activities and safe spaces for the global LGBTQAI+ community to explore Brooklyn's culturally diverse communities and authentic cultural experiences.

In addition to safe venues and restaurants situated in neighborhoods like Bedford Stuyvesant, Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, Fort Greene, Clinton Hills, Destination Brooklyn: Pride will host an eclectic mix of day-time programming and nightlife fun.

Highlights include the "LGBTQ Learn Series" at Bed-Stuy's Calabar Imports, a series of experiential workshops on DJing, Drag Fashion Styling and Makeup, Hemp Healing and Wellness, as well as the "LGBTQ Culture Series" which invites revelers to participate in a Bed-Stuy LGBTQ Open House tour, Bed-Stuy Arts Stroll: The Pride Edition, a LGBTQ Creatives Party/Mixer, and more.

On Tuesday, June 18, the collective will host "Destination Brooklyn: Pride Honors" to celebrate notable Brooklyn-based LGBTQAI+ members. Among the honorees are LGBTQ entrepreneur Andre Springer aka Shaquanda Coco Molatta, innovator of Shaquanda's Hot Pepper Sauce, Brooklyn's own power couple Aisha and Danielle Moodie-Mills, and restaurateur Calvin Clark, former owner of iconic Club Langston in Bedford Stuyvesant.

"As a small business owner and member of the LGBTQAI+ community, it's important that we collectively come together to provide our global visitors a culturally enriched Brooklyn experience," said Clark, who is one of the driving forces behind Destination Brooklyn: Pride.
