Wingate Concert Series Returns with Johnny Gill, Estelle and Wyclef Jean

The family-friendly Wingate Concert series returns on Wednesday, August 8, with an eclectic assortment of soul/ R&B, reggae, gospel and hip-hop performances. This year's performers include Johnny Gill, Estelle and Barrington Levy, JJ Hairston as well as Wyclef Jean, Slick Rick and more.

"Music is a celebration of life, love and the beauty of our diverse communities," said Borough President Eric Adams. "That's why I'm excited to present the 2018 Wingate Concert Series at Wingate Park in East Flatbush."

Radio 103.9 WNBM-FM on-air personalities La Loco and Chubb Rock lead the opening R&B night on Wednesday, August 8, with live performances by Johnny Gill, After 7 and Vivian Green.

Afro-Caribbean and reggae sounds will take over the Wingate stage on Thursday, August 9. The evening, co-presented by radio 107.5 WBLS-FM, will feature live performances by Estelle, Barrington Levy, Alison Hinds, Serani, Ricky Blaze, Alandon, Dovey Magnum, Tifa, Kappa, Sugar Bear and Flyame.

The following week, radio 1190 WLIB-AM radio's Liz Black and Niecy Tribbett will bring gospel night to Wingate Park on Wednesday, August 15. Gospel stars JJ Hairston, Charles Jenkins, VaShawn Mitchell, Jonathan Nelson, Christian Cultural Center Choir, among others, will lead through an evening of praise.

Slick Rick will close out the 2018 Wingate Concert Series with Wyclef Jean, Mr. Cheeks, Big Daddy Kane and more on August 16.

The series finale on Thursday, August 16, will be a celebration of 45 years of hip-hop. Co-presented by WBLS-FM, the evening not only includes performances by Wyclef Jean, Slick Rick, Kool Moe Dee and Mr. Cheeks but also a very special presentation of the Wingate Salute to hip-hop by Brooklyn's own Big Daddy Kane.

All shows are scheduled to begin at 7:00pm, with gates to the public opening at 6:00pm. And more good news: Of course this family-friendly event series is free!
