Brooklyn’s Halloween season has gained a new attraction with the opening of the Haunted Hotel at the LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park, offering visitors an immersive experience featuring live actors, themed rooms and theatrical effects, according to the Brooklyn Paper.
The attraction spans 7,680 square feet and takes about 20 to 25 minutes to complete. It is part of Prospect Park’s first Harvest Festival and was developed in collaboration with Abracadabra NYC, a company that has specialised in haunted houses since 1981.
Visitors begin with a simulated elevator experience before making their way through the hotel’s eerie corridors. The attraction includes identical-looking guest room doors, a honeymoon suite and a boiler room, with flickering lights, shaking walls and costumed performers adding to the atmosphere.
“We have our haunted bellhops, our haunted chefs, our haunted honeymoon guests,” said Jordan Ekstein, the LeFrak Center at Lakeside’s special events and marketing manager. “All the people that unfortunately could not escape the apocalypse at Lakeside.”
The live actors portray various hotel characters, including bellhops, chefs and honeymoon guests who have become trapped in the fictional hotel during an apocalypse. Although the experience is designed to frighten visitors, actors will not touch them.
The Haunted Hotel is recommended for visitors ages 13 and older and groups are limited to eight people. Tickets cost $20 on Mondays and $35 Tuesday through Sunday. Visitors can purchase tickets for 30-minute arrival windows, while walk-ups are also welcome.
The attraction adds another seasonal activity to Prospect Park, giving Brooklyn residents and visitors an additional way to mark Halloween. The Harvest Festival provides a broader seasonal setting for the experience, bringing Halloween-themed entertainment to the Lakeside area.
The collaboration with Abracadabra NYC brings the expertise of a company with decades of experience in haunted-house attractions to the project. The hotel setting, live performances and special effects combine to create a walk-through experience rather than a traditional display, allowing visitors to move through a series of themed spaces.
Visitors planning to attend can check ticket availability and arrival times before heading to the LeFrak Center at Lakeside. The timed-entry system and eight-person group limit help structure the experience, while the age recommendation provides guidance for families considering the attraction as part of their Halloween plans.
