Weekend

The weekend cometh and you should pull it all together and get outside to enjoy the warm weather and outdoor events. It's a bunch of things going on with the Bushwick Collective Block Party/Anniversary Celebration, which is a three day art event in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Combining graffiti, streetart, music, food trucks and local vendors, the collective brings together the best of the community. This will play out over the whole weekend, and will not only be a block party on Saturday, but also an art exhibition and live music on Randolph Street, for all three days.

Of course it's also lots of dancing and drinking and eating to be had this weekend, and although it won't be the most amazing weather-with rain in the forecast for Friday and Sunday-it's still the weekend and you don't have to deal with your nosy co-workers of slave driving boss!

FRIDAY

Bushwick Collective Anniversary Weekend-Opening Reception, Free

This is the opening reception for the crazy Bushwick Collective Anniversary Weekend, and will feature an art exhibition, and live performances by Jim Jones, Styles P and Meyhem Lauren. This will be rather rad, but also crowded, so get there early. You can get a full spectrum of the opening reception + the weekend anniversary activities, including the block party, by clicking this Link

Super cheaper than Hamilton
Super cheaper than Hamilton

Anybody, Union Hall, 9pm, $10 (Park Slope)

On the heels of the wildly successful, Broadway Play, Hamilton, comes a Hip-Hopera that won't cost you and your bae half y'all rent, to check out. North Coast is a known entity in the improvisational, freestyle space, and they will be wittily connecting the dots between historical events and people, through rap. Not sure how many more shows there will be after this Friday's, so click here for more information and to purchase tickets.

Up Jumps The Color Of Bushwick
Color Me Bushwick Is a Total Mash Up

Color Me Bushwick, 61-63 Wycoff Avenue, Friday-Sunday, 12:30pm-11:15pm each day,Free (but accepting donations), Bushwick

Billing itself as "The first festival to fuse hair, music, lifestyle, beauty + party", it's in it's third year and seems to be going stronger than ever. It will most likely be bigger than ever this weekend, as it fills the art & music vibe, that was created when Bushwick Open Studios moved to the fall. It's another three day event in Bushwick this weekend, and will feature 25+ bands, live hair booths, a free, sponsored bar of everything from beer and booze (PBR & Sailor Jerry), to energy drinks and ginger ale (Red Bull and Bruce Cost) as well as visual art. Click Here for more info, via their Facebook page.

The Bushwick Collective Anniversary Art Exhibition + Live Music, 198 Randolph Street, Saturday & Sunday, 10am-5pm, free (Bushwick)

This will be home base for the weekend and an art exhibition indoors, as opposed to the outdoor art that is traditionally Bushwick Collective. You can get more information about it by clicking this Link

Jadakiss will rock the stage for this!
Jadakiss will rock the Bushwick Collective Anniversary Block Party, Troutman Street & Wyckoff Avenue, 11am-5pm, free (Bushwick)

This is always super fun! This year, Jadakiss will be rocking the stage with what will surely be a dope performance and the street will be blocked off so people can get it in. Likely the first block party of the Brooklyn summer, largely because it ain't even summer yet, you can experience DJs up and down the block, at various venues (including Lot 45, where I will be DJing), a main stage with live performances and DJs, top level street artists finishing amazing murals, food trucks, great people and just errrthing. You should probably click Here to get more information, because it's a lot going on.

Technically not Brooklyn, but darn near everybody out there is from Brooklyn! It's several companies that offer shuttle bus service, and it's even some that give you cold beverages. There's a bunch to do, from the food trucks to the clothing vendors, to the bands and DJs and there's also THE BEACH! If you don't hit the Bushwick Collective Block party this weekend, this is a great option! The Get Summered crew gets it in, so if you don't already know, go find out. Maybe You Can Be A Scramble Board Contestant!
Maybe You Can Be A Scramble Board Contestant!

Soul Train Video Jam, LSC Bar, 665 Franklin Avenue, Free (Crown Heights)

Soul train was such an iconic show and it's everlasting mark on the world is the Soul Train Line, which people have been doing everywhere, since the 70's. That's what makes this party super fun, because a DJ mixing videos of Soul Train is a stone gas baby (uhhhh, that was a Soul Train reference, in case chudon'tknow) and sure to make for a fun Saturday night. Get out your dancing shoes, but leave the platforms at home if you have ankles like Steph Curry, and boogie over to Franklin Ave. It's right after First Saturday at The Brooklyn Museum, and you can even dance to a video mix of Prince, the weekend before his birthday. Clicke Here for more info and holla at Dj Fritzo if you go, ask him if you can start a scramble board!

SUNDAY

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 1.34.37 PM

It's a fun skate environment, and all ages, so bring the kids, bring the wife or bring bae and literally fall in love...unless you can skate, in which case you'll be whipping around like it was the 80's at The Roxy. The VS and Prince Klassen also spin, so the music will be triple on point! It's a VIP group package and some discounts from lift, so click Here to get more information and purchase tix. If you see me floundering on my skates, pleeeaaaase don't push me over!

Roofs are made for chillin'
Roofs are made for chillin'

Cold Chillin Inkswel, Northern Territory, 12 Franklin Street, 3pm-9pm, Free (Greenpoint)

I know two things for sure. 1. Ain't nothing like chilling on the roof, with cocktails and good DJs in the Spring/Summer and 2. Aussies in Brooklyn really gets it in!

Ok, I know more than two things, but those two things are #facts, and at Inkswel, you can jam and chill with said Aussie crew, sip cocktails and close out your weekend watching the sun go down. It's free99 for everybody, so minimal risk if you want to check it out. Check out some more about the DJs (Inkswel, Cam-Run and Sean Rowlands) and their DJ history, on the FB event page, by clicking Here.

Here's this weekend's Dick & Dave, where we had Rael Petit, from Lot 45 come on, and make cocktails

Ready, set, go
