Rat Rap Catapults Performer to Miss Subways Crown

Bimini Cricket, a comedic burlesque performer, impressed the crowd in Coney Island with a dual performance as a dancing rat and a take on “Rapper’s Delight” by the Sugarhill Gang.

A lively crowd at Coney Island USA cheered on eight contestants on Friday, each competing for the title of Miss Subways 2025.

There was a yoga practitioner/contortionist, a transit justice advocate and an opera singer that wowed the viewers, but the crown was given to Bimini Cricket, a comedic burlesque performer, who impressed the crowd with a dual performance as a dancing rat and the song "Ratter's Delight," a take on the song “Rapper’s Delight” by the Sugarhill Gang.

The contest, started in 1941 by New York Subways Advertising Company to boost ad revenue, was formerly a traditional beauty contest. Now, it's a campy, fun affair, filled with satirical song and dance hosted by the City Reliquary Museum.
