PHOTOS: Janelle Monáe Headlines, as Rule-Breaking Women Take Over Prospect Park

Bustle hosts its inaugural festival in Brooklyn, where those who break boundaries are celebrated

On Saturday, September 22, Grammy nominated singer and songwriter Janelle Monáe headlined "Rule Breakers," a first-ever festival hosted by Bustle where those who break boundaries and defy the status quo through compelling art are celebrated.

The event took place at Lefrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park and featured retro roller skating, group meditation, coveted food vendors and live musical performances by music duo Sofi Tukker, DJ Samantha Ronson, and designer Va$htie

"This entire experience has been rooted in love," Janelle told the crowd on Saturday. "I've felt so much f*cking love out here tonight."

She also said, in a kind message of support for the LGBTQ community, "No matter who you love or how you love, you are welcome at my show."

Earlier this month, Bustle launched a Rule Breakers digital issue, in which Bustle editors revealed a list of 29 women and non-binary individuals who break the rules and boundaries every day.

Take a look at some of the photos from the performance:
