On Monday, January 19, Brooklyn Academy of Music, in conjunction with the office of Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams and Medgar Evers College, held the 29th Annual Brooklyn Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.— Come Share the Dream.
The free community event— the largest celebration of its kind in Brooklyn— featured a keynote address by provocative and prominent educator and author Dr. Cornel West. Adams served as the host and master of ceremonies.
There were musical performances by the New York Fellowship Mass Choir and Sandra St. Victor & Oya's Daughter.
There were additional remarks by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, U.S. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles E. Schumer, BAM President Karen Brooks Hopkins, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and Kings County D.A. Ken Thompson.
