The Brooklyn Nets have relieved Jacque Vaughn of his head coaching duties, the team announced in a press release on Monday.

There was no word about who will replace him, except that an interim head coach will be named in the near future.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision, but one we feel is in the best interest of the team going forward,” said Nets General Manager Sean Marks.

“Jacque has represented this organization with exemplary character and class for the past eight years. The consistent positivity and passion he poured into our team daily will remain with the players and staff he interacted with throughout his tenure."

However, the Nets's record spoke louder than Vaughn's passion. They've lost six of their last 10 games heading into the All-Star break, and they currently sit in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with a 21-33 record.

Vaughn was an assistant for the team since 2016 and was named interim coach after the previous coach Steve Nash and the team parted ways in November 2022 after a 2-5 record. Vaughn took over a Brooklyn team for the start of the 2022-23 season.

Over parts of three seasons as head coach in Brooklyn, Vaughn compiled a record of 71-68 (wins to losses, a percentage of .511)

"We thank Jacque for all he has done for the Nets and the borough of Brooklyn, and wish him, Laura, and their family nothing but the best in the future," Marks said.

Update 2/20: The Brooklyn Nets have named Kevin Ollie as interim head coach. Following a 13-year NBA playing career, Ollie began coaching at his alma mater, the University of Connecticut, in 2010. Serving as head coach for six seasons (2012-18), Ollie led the Huskies to the NCAA National Championship in 2014. The Los Angeles native then spent two years (2021-23) as head of coaching and basketball development for Overtime Elite, prior to joining Brooklyn as an assistant coach ahead of the 2023-24 season.
