A mermaid-themed roller disco is coming to Bushwick on June 6 as Vinyl Nights returns to Xanadu with a night of skating, disco and classic Hip-Hop.
The 21-and-over event, called “Mermaid Night,” will feature roller skating, costume contests and music inspired by New York City’s skate culture from the 1970s through 1990s. Guests are encouraged to dress in mermaid-themed outfits for a chance to win prizes.
The event will include a performance by The TailShakers, a New York City-based mermaid dance team founded in 2017 that performs at parades and events across the city.
“We’re gonna roll into an underwater sea adventure. Dress as a mermaid, enter our costume contest and win prizes!” organizers Rebecca Lynn and Kate Storch said of the upcoming Mermaid Night event.
Music throughout the night will be provided by DJs Misbehaviour, Twin-T and Cindy Kim, with sets focused on disco, funk, soul and ’80s and ’90s hip-hop. DJ Misbehaviour, a London-born Brooklyn DJ, went viral online for spinning ’90s hip-hop vinyl records.
The night will also highlight Landmark, an art project celebrating locations and moments tied to New York hip-hop history. Founded by Kate Storch, the project features artwork from Shiro, Danny Cortes, Peter Paid, André LeRoy Davis, Topaz and Danielle Mastrion. Limited-edition merchandise from participating artists will be available during the event.
General admission tickets start at $32.71. Skate rentals are not included and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Booth reservations are available for groups of seven or more.
