Beloved outdoor waterfront film

Brooklyn Bridge Park’s annual Movies With a View series returns this summer with nine free outdoor screenings and an additional family movie night in September.

Now in its 26th year, the film series will take place on Thursday evenings throughout July and August at Pier 1’s Harbor View Lawn. The season opens July 2 with Hamilton, the filmed version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway musical.

Other screenings include When Harry Met Sally, Bend It Like Beckham, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Clueless, Jurassic Park, Do the Right Thing and Bridesmaids.

"Movies With A View has grown into a beloved summertime experience for both New Yorkers and visitors, creating a shared sense of community through film against the backdrop of one of the city's most iconic outdoor settings," said Eric Landau, president of Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The Aug. 27 screening will be selected by public vote. Viewers can choose between Challengers, The Great Gatsby and Ocean’s Eleven through an online poll hosted by Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The series will expand beyond its traditional summer schedule with a Sept. 18 family movie night featuring the animated film How to Train Your Dragon.

All screenings are free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. The lawn opens at 6:00pm and films begin at sunset. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, as Harbor View Lawn offers waterfront views of New York Harbor and lower Manhattan.

Guests may bring food for picnics or purchase refreshments from Fornino, which will sell popcorn, drinks and alcoholic beverages for adults 21 and older. Picnic blankets and small cushions are permitted, while lawn chairs, dogs, outside alcohol and glass containers are prohibited on the lawn.

Since launching in 2000, Movies With a View has attracted roughly 735,000 attendees, making it one of New York City’s largest and longest-running outdoor film series.
