Temperatures may be cooling, but a late-October weekend promises to bring the heat with the return of BRIC’s JazzFest.
The annual festival will return to BRIC House in-person this year, after being moved online in 2020, and it is bringing a slate of legendary and groundbreaking artists to the borough for the three-day festival.
The festival will run from Thursday, October 21 through Saturday, October 23, with performances starting at 7:00pm each night.
This year’s stacked lineup is co-curated by performer Madison McFerrin along with Executive Producer Lia Camille Crockett and Winter JazzFest Founder Brice Rosenbloom, and includes jazz performers from Brooklyn and beyond.
Thursday’s show includes composer, singer, and visual artist Cécile McLorin Salvant; two-time Grammy winner Kurt Elling with SuperBlue, featuring Charlie Hunter; trumpeter Sean Jones; guitarist, vocalist, composer and producer Yasser Tejeda; musician, composer, producer, and bandleader Sasha Berliner; and trumpet player and composer Adam O'Farrill's band Stranger Days.
Friday will include Sun Ra Arkestra, led by saxophonist Marshall Allen; saxophonist-composer-poet-actor Roy Nathanson and genre-agnostic Onyx Collective and neo-soul singer Nick Hakim; Ethiopian keyboardist, accordionist, and bandleader Hailu Mergia; two-time Grammy nominated Thana Alexa with Thana Alexa: ONA; formerly one half of the Psychedelic-Space-Rap-Jazz duo THEESatisfaction, Stas THEE Boss; and Israeli bassist and composer Adi Meyerson.
Saturday will include independent singer-songwriter Madison McFerrin; legendary bandleader, trombonist, and author Fred Wesley & The New JBs; experimentalist and multi-instrumentalist Taja Cheek, aka L’Rain; musician and artist Jaimie Branch, bassist Luke Stewart and drummer Tcheser Holmes as ç’est tois (branch/stewart/holmes); NPR’s 2020 Tiny Desk Contest winner Linda Diaz; and a Brooklyn Jam Session led by Louis Cato and Special Guests.
The shows will all be in BRIC House, a 40,000 square foot multi-disciplinary arts and media complex in the former Strand Theatre. The festival will require proof of vaccination for entry. To purchase day tickets or three day passes, click here.
