Brooklyn arts and media institution BRIC recently announced that two of its community media initiatives received several nominations for this year’s New York Emmy Awards.

BRIC TV (a nonprofit video producer of local news and social justice reporting) and Brooklyn Free Speech TV (a community-driven nonprofit TV and podcast network) accumulated four nominations each from the annual New York television awards.

Four different documentaries produced by BRIC TV received nominations in a variety of Emmy Award categories, including "The Mothers of Flatbush: The Real Experts on Gun Violence" (for the Societal Concerns - Long Form Content category), "The Iron Pipeline" (Informational/Instructional - Short or Long Form Content), "One Bullet – and the 25-Year Ricochet" (Crime/Justice - Short or Long Form Content), and "Trauma & Treatment: Violence Interrupters Help Heal" (Health/Medical - Short or Long Form Content).

As for Brooklyn Speech TV, its "Valentino The Musical" series picked up four nominations split between two respective categories — three nominations for Technical Achievement and one for Audio - Live or Post-Produced.

Established over 40 years ago, BRIC is an arts organization that aims to mold “Brooklyn's cultural and media landscape by presenting and incubating artists, creators, students, and media makers,” according to BRIC’s website.

Throughout BRIC’s long history, the Brooklyn arts organization has won 12 New York Emmy Awards.

BRIC will look to add to its trophy collection during the 66th Annual New York Emmy Awards, which is scheduled to take place at the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023.
