BRIC Announces Fall Lineup: JazzFest, Hip-Hop Town Hall and More

The fall season will start on Sept. 10 with BRIC House Block Party and Family Day.

The BRIC, Brooklyn’s leading cultural organization dedicated to presenting art and media programming, will welcome Melanie Charles as the guest artist curator for the upcoming BRIC JazzFest this October.

BRIC announced its plans for the JazzFest, as well as the full fall season on Aug. 16. 

The season will be kickstarted with BRIC House Block Party and Family Day, a new event on Sept. 10. The block party will feature workshops and live performances.

On Oct. 5, the BRIC will host a town hall event entitled: Dead Rappers Get Better Promotion?: The Health Crisis in Hip-Hop. The conversation will delve into issues surrounding the health and well-being of artists in the hip-hop industry.

The Fall 2023 Contemporary Art Exhibitions will host an opening reception on Oct. 10. The exhibition highlights the work of Adama Delphine Fawundu, Camella Ehlke, David Ellis, and Raque Ford. 

The BRIC JazzFest will be held on Oct. 19 to 21. Melanie Charles will be welcomed as the guest artist curator. Headliners will include:

  • Amina Claudine Myers Trio
  • Melanie Charles / Orrin Evans Duo
  • B. Cool-Aid
  • BIGYUKI
  • Miki Yamanaka
  • George Burton

Following the JazzFest, BRIC will host the Media Maker Weekend on Oct. 27 and 28 with workshops and discussions for media creators with industry professionals. 

Fall Adult Media Education classes will also run from September to December. These classes help participants develop new skills and explore various facets of media production.

The BRIC’s fall lineup follows the successful Celebrate Brooklyn summer program lineup. The summer season included sets from rappers Digable Planets, Kari Faux, WIKI and was hosted by hip-hop icon April Walker. 

BRIC will encompass multiple aspects of Hip-Hop culture, including visual art, fashion, education, film, advocacy as it moves forward. For more information, click here.
