WHO: Aziza Miller

WHAT: BAMCafé Live performance

WHEN: Friday, Dec. 5, 10:00pm

WHERE: Brooklyn Academy of Music, 30 Lafayette Avenue, Peter Jay Sharp Building,

WHY: This New York City-bred soul pioneer, urban poet, and consummate jazz pianist has been a music industry force since the 1970s, when she began setting her streetwise tales of city living to irresistible funk grooves. Since then, she's been the musical director for Natalie Cole, a mentor to Alicia Keys, and performed on Broadway. Miller takes the stage at BAMcafé fresh from the release of her latest album, What's On Your Mind?, which Soul Tracks has called "a breath of fresh air."

WHO: Shannon Sanders

WHAT: BAMCafé Live performance

WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 6, 10:00pm

WHERE: Brooklyn Academy of Music, 30 Lafayette Avenue, Peter Jay Sharp Building,

WHY: This two-time Grammy Award-winning producer has written hits for artists like India.Arie ("Video"), John Legend, Jonny Lang, and Heather Headley ("In My Mind")—and is a powerhouse in his own right, delivering old-school-style R&B ballads with his rich, soulful voice. Heartfelt, socially conscious lyrics are supported by lush production—think brassy horns and deep bass grooves—lending a timeless feel in the best neo-soul tradition.
