Explore the studios of more than 130 artists during DUMBO Open Studios, taking place April 22-23, from 1:00pm-6:00pm with curated programming from Art in DUMBO.
“Open Studios presents a unique opportunity for the artists in the DUMBO neighborhood to open themselves up to the community and interact with our neighbors in a more intimate way,” said Kate Gavriel, director of cultural affairs at Two Trees Management.
“Opening up their studios to the public cultivates a special experience where attendees can get a sense of the artistic process and have conversations with the artists about their work."
Studios range from artists who have worked in DUMBO for decades to those participating in artists residency programs. Participating residency programs are: Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program, Smack Mellon, Triangle Arts, BRIClab, and New York Studio School.
Artists in the community include Rodney Ewing, whose drawings, installations, and mixed media work tackle overlooked history and events of the Black Diaspora; textiles, fiber and knitwear designer Liz Collins; and eco-conscious POC-owned print, design studio Lucky Risograph.
"Programs like this are what makes this neighborhood so special. Not only is DUMBO a haven for artists, it's home to an established community of people who truly appreciate art and are able to attend events that deepen that passion," Gavriel said.
Visitors can plan their visit at dumboopenstudios.com and utilize an interactive map of artists’ studios.
