A Brooklyn College theater professor helped bring two Tony Award-winning productions to the stage this year.
Michael Page, an adjunct assistant professor and head of Brooklyn College's M.F.A. in Performing Arts Management program, served as co-producer on Ragtime and Liberation, both of which won major honors at the Tony Awards on June 7.
The Broadway revival of Ragtime won Best Revival of a Musical, while Liberation won Best Play during the 79th annual Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall.
"Having faculty members who are contributing to award-winning productions on Broadway enriches the educational experience for our students," said Theater Department Chair Kip Marsh.
Page was also involved with three other Tony-nominated productions. He served as executive producer of Titaníque, nominated for Best Musical; co-producer of Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York), also nominated for Best Musical; and co-producer of Oedipus, nominated for Best Revival of a Play.
Based on the novel by E.L. Doctorow, Ragtime follows the lives of several families navigating race, class and immigration in early 20th-century America. Liberation, written by Bess Wohl, examines the legacy of the women's liberation movement and earlier this year received the GLAAD Media Award for outstanding Broadway production.
Page teaches in Brooklyn College's Department of Theater and has worked as a producer and manager on more than 100 live productions presented on Broadway, off-Broadway, in regional theaters and internationally. Productions he has worked on have received Tony, Obie, Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel and Drama League honors and nominations.
