The Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks will be back with a blast this Sunday after its 2020 pandemic-induced hiatus — and this year its set to celebrate the country's essential workers who have kept us going.
The 45th anniversary of the light and sound extravaganza will see fireworks launched off five barges along the East River, promising Brooklynites some of the best views in the city.
The show will kick of at approximately 9:25pm, with television broadcasts starting at 8:00pm.
Simultaneously, the NYPD has said fireworks will be shot off the 72nd, 86th and 103rd floors of the Empire State Building.
And, after a 23-month hiatus, our own Coney Island will be lit up again with weekly fireworks shows starting this Sunday.
Where to catch the action:
North Brooklyn Parks
North Brooklyn is full of waterfront parks that will make perfect vantage points for the show — but beware: they're sure to fill up fast.
Grand Ferry Park, Domino Park, Bushwick Inlet Park, East River State Park and Transmitter Park will all be hot spots for the show, but if you get there late anywhere along River St, Kent Ave or Franklin St would do the trick.
The Williamsburg Hotel
If you're feeling like forking out a few dollars and getting an all-night affair with a BBQ feast (with vegan options) and music by several artists, then look no further than The Williamsburg Hotel. The party will be held on the hotel's rooftop terrace and water tower. Tickets range from $175 for general admission to $3,500 for a rooftop table for 10 guests with bottle service. A water tower table for six guests costs $2,250.
Westlight at The William Vale
The 22nd-floor rooftop bar at The William Vale will make a perfect spot for fireworks viewing this Sunday, and it will also be the perfect place to have a boogie with DJ sets by DJ Tennis, Carlita, De Roos and Old City. Tickets for a table reservation are between $350 and $2,500.
Coney Island
For those looking for a homegrown affair, head to South Brooklyn for the start of Coney Island's weekly fireworks spectaculars.
After a 23-month hiatus the shows are back and kick off at 10:00pm above the boardwalk on Sunday and then every Friday through Labor Day.
Alliance for Coney Island Director Alexandra Silversmith said: "Twenty-three months since our last fireworks show, which is hard to believe, we are grateful to be able to bring these events back and can't wait to see the smiling faces on the boardwalk."
Where NOT to watch
Macy's has said the fireworks won't be visible from the usual hot spots of Brooklyn Bridge Park, Brooklyn Heights Promenade and Grand Ferry Park and suggested the public avoid those areas.
