Sidney Kuri Poor is an award-winning journalist and resident of Brooklyn, who moved to New York City in 2021. She has a masters degree from Columbia University School of Journalism, and a bachelor's degree in Culture and Media from The New School. As a graduate student, she was a member of Columbia’s Visual Craft Cohort, producing short documentaries about CUNY’s unions, and churches across New York City. She received the James A. Wechsler Memorial Award for local reporting on protests outside of Manhattan ICE Detention Centers on Ash Wednesday.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Sidney has worked for local non-profits such as Cleveland VOTES developing communications strategy, and has assisted in legislative research and data communication for EdFund – a New Jersey non-profit which provides support for school funding research across the country. At EdFund, Sidney advanced the Concentrated Poverty Campaign, which sought to quantitatively and qualitatively report inequities in funding to the public.

Sidney has produced and directed narrative short films and podcasts, and works as a freelance photographer. She has worked, lived, and produced multi-media projects in Havana, Cuba, and Madrid, Spain. At the New School, she was selected for the Dean’s Honor Symposium panel, where she presented her original reporting on the profiles of Cubans in Vedado.
