The Biden administration has set a target of 500,000 charging stations by 2030, which is a four-fold increase in the current number of stations. Currently, there are 30,000 fast charging stations in the country. The quarterly sales report of 2022 shows that Tesla EV sales are highest as compared to other competitors in the market. Moreover, Tesla has a vast network of EV charging stations with 18000 superchargers.

Now, the top automakers in the domain, BMW, Hyundai, Mercedes, General Motors, Honda, and Stellantis are getting together in this race. They have invested in a multi-billion dollar project of developing multiple charging stations with high power that will incorporate 30,000 plugs in the urban corridor by the year 2030.

Tesla’s Supremacy In The EV Domain

Tesla has the largest number of fast-charging networks with the best superchargers available in the market. This has been great news for EV drivers as JD Power’s study states that about 21 percent of EV drivers confirm that they weren’t able to charge properly at non-Tesla stations. Also, this number was lesser, about 4 percent for superchargers.

Just in late 2022, Tesla developed the North American Charging Standard as a revolution in its charging technology. Many top brands such as GM, Ford, Volvo, Polestar, and Rivian have already joined hands to share Tesla’s NACS standard in their future EVs.

Tesla’s recent press release shares, “We would love to invite different charging network operators and EV manufacturers to place the Tesla charging port and connector on their vehicles and equipment as part of the newly developed North American Charging Standard (NACS).”

A United High-Value Project Of Charging Stations

All the parties that have invested in the project have not decided on a particular date for it but ensure that the first US chargers of their venture will be ready by next summer.

Currently, there are 8,700 DC fast charging stations in the US and Canada with 36000 plugs. Moreover, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory predicts there will be a need for 182,000 fast-charging ports to support long-range travels in the country by 2030. There are different charging levels for EVs. DC fast charging is the fastest charging level in the domain and allows the owner to charge the EV to its full capacity in 20 to 60 minutes. It uses direct current in contrast to Level 1 and Level 2 charging levels. Tesla supercharger is a type of DC fast charging.

The charging stations in the joint venture will be open to all EV owners. Stations will incorporate both NACS and CCS plugs that are used by most of the manufacturers in the automobile industry.

The project will improve the overall sales of EVs in the country and promote potential customers to switch to these vehicles without doubting the ability to charge them on long-range tours.

New York To Ban The Gasoline Powered Vehicles Sale By 2035

The New York Department of Energy is already encouraging public and private entities with rebate programs to achieve more energy efficiency by 2035.

Since New York state is planning to ban the sale of all new gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035, there will be an increase in the number of Charging Stations New York. This move will alleviate all the greenhouse gas emissions and promote the use of more electric vehicles on the road.
