The Metropolitan Transportation Authority on Sunday shared additional opportunities for the public who live in bus-reliant areas to transfer MetroCard balances to the contactless OMNY Tap and Ride system.
This comes as the MTA transitions to the OMNY system from MetroCards, where the latter will be phased out on Dec. 31.
To supplement the recently announced opening of 15 additional Customer Service Centers, the MTA is making available a fleet of mobile sales vehicles that will operate in all five boroughs and Westchester on select days each week.
“Mobile sales vehicles give riders a quick and easy way to make the switch to OMNY,” said MTA Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara. “We want all customers to unlock the benefits of Tap and Ride technology - whether it’s the money-saving fare cap feature or all the time they’ll save tapping instead of swiping. With the MetroCard destined for the history books, OMNY is the way of the future.”
The mobile sales vehicles are a convenient way for riders to learn more about Tap and Ride, buy or refill OMNY cards, apply for the Reduced-Fare program, or transfer MetroCard balances to an OMNY card.
