Renovations are now underway on the football field at Prospect Park Parade Grounds, continuing the complex’s ongoing transformation.
Council Member Rita Joseph, NYC Parks and Prospect Park Alliance broke ground on the restoration of Field 9 on Thursday. The repairs, made possible through $1.5 million in funding from Joseph, includes replacing the turf, renovating pathways and installing ADA-accessible drinking fountains.
"Green spaces are not just about recreation — they’re about public health, environmental justice, and community well-being," the council member said in a statement.
The Parade Grounds is one of Brooklyn’s most popular recreational areas and is a beloved destination for a range of sports and play, said Prospect Park Alliance President Morgan Monaco.
Over the past year, Fields 7 and 8, primarily used for baseball and soccer, has also gotten an upgrade, with new drainage systems and turf replacement.
"The Parade Ground is a key youth sports center for Brooklynites, and we are thrilled about the upcoming renovation at Field 9 to make the space more welcoming and accessible," said NYC Parks Brooklyn Borough Commissioner Martin Maher.
