The Bedford branch of the Brooklyn Public Library in Crown Heights will open on the weekends beginning on Sept. 7, 2025.

Two additional branches of the Brooklyn Public Library will be open seven days a week beginning Sept. 7, thanks to new funding from the city’s fiscal year 2026 budget.

The Bedford branch, located in Crown Heights, and the Bay Ridge branch on Ridge Boulevard will be open on the weekends, including on Sunday.

The expansion is part of a $2 million investment spearheaded by City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams to improve weekend library access across the five boroughs.

“I proposed expanding seven-day library service across the city in my 2025 State of the City address, because libraries are among our most precious public resources, serving New Yorkers of all ages in every neighborhood,” Speaker Adams said in a statement.

The additional funds bring the total number of library branches offering Sunday service citywide to over 30. The Brooklyn Public Library will now have six branches with seven-day service, including Central, Macon, Brooklyn Heights, Greenpoint and the two new additions.

“Keeping libraries open on Sundays is one of the most meaningful ways we can serve New Yorkers- especially working families and those who count on us for free programs, internet access, books, and safe, welcoming spaces," said Linda Johnson, president and chief executive officer of Brooklyn Public Library. "In the summer, that also means a place to cool off and stay out of the heat."
