New York State Senator Iwen Chu announced that her re-election campaign secured more than $130,000 in contributions through the state’s campaign finance program.

The state initiative is designed to encourage small-dollar donations for political candidates of all political affiliations, in an effort to enforce a fair playing field.

According to a release, Chu’s campaign received contributions from over 240 in-district donors, with an average of $80 being given to the political cause — including more than 140 donations valued at under $50.

In response to the generous grassroots support, Chu said that the contributions further reaffirm her commitment to a campaign that is “powered by the people.”

"I am deeply honored by the overwhelming support from our community. This grassroots movement is not just about a campaign; it's a testament to our shared values and the trust placed in me to advocate and deliver for our community,” said Chu.

“The qualifying for matching funds amplifies the voices of our supporters, ensuring that our campaign remains focused on the issues that matter most to our constituents. I look forward to continuing our work together, making a positive impact in the lives of those we serve."

Amidst the donation news, Chu said that her focus remains on “addressing critical issues such as affordability, public safety, education, smart community development and ensuring that every voice is heard.”
