Governor Kathy Hochul on Nov. 10 announced $61 million in Green Resiliency Grants to fund eight major stormwater infrastructure projects across New York State, including $17.8 million in New York City.

The grants, backed by the Clean Water, Clean Air and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022, aim to strengthen communities against flooding, protect clean water and reduce the strain on wastewater systems as climate impacts intensify.

“Too many communities have experienced the devastation of severe flooding, and that’s why we’re investing in resiliency initiatives to protect vulnerable areas and make our state stronger and more resilient,” Hochul said.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection will receive $10 million for the North and South Conduit Median Green Infrastructure Project in Brooklyn and Queens. The initiative will build bioretention areas designed to capture and treat stormwater, helping to prevent sewer overflows and protect Jamaica Bay’s water quality.

Hochul also unveiled resilient.ny.gov, a new state website designed to connect residents, businesses and municipalities to resources that support community resiliency and climate adaptation.

The site consolidates grant opportunities, emergency planning tools and agency programs in one place, making it easier for New Yorkers to access funding and guidance for storm preparedness.
