Kingston Throop Station, Jan. 2026.

On Sept. 10, an NYPD officer accidentally fired their gun at Kingston-Throop station in Bed-Stuy shortly before 5:00pm, reported the Gothamist on Sept. 12.

Police had initially told the Gothamist that no one was struck during the incident, then days later issued a statement stating that the fragment “came into contact” with two bystanders.

The NYPD was largely unresponsive in requests for comments, saying only that they had no additional information beyond the initial statement. Initially, a police official did note that something had been stuck in the gun.

Council member Chi Ossé, representing Bed-Stuy and north Crown Heights, posted a statement on social media a few days later:

“To date, my office still lacks a clear account of what occurred,” Ossé wrote. The post noted that police “reversed course” after their initial statement that no one was struck, failing to explain how the three people involved were hospitalized. “My office will not accept vague explanations and a lack of transparency as an answer,” he said.

As a result of the incident, the Gothamist reported, both officers involved were placed on modified duty, according to the NYPD.

BK Reader plans a further investigation.
