Third And Final BQE Closure to Start on June 1, DOT Says

Motorists will be detoured in the Queens bound direction

New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) will begin a notification campaign ahead of expected closures for necessary repair and replacement work in early June to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) in Brooklyn, with a full closure between the Atlantic Avenue entrance ramp and the Manhattan Bridge exit ramp in the Queens-bound direction.

NYC DOT expects to implement the closures starting Saturday, June 1, at 2:00am through Monday, June 3, at 4:00am. These weekend repairs are expected to be the final planned repairs of the year.

“We are approaching the third and final phase of our interim repair work for 2024 on the BQE to preserve its lifespan and keep it in a state of good repair,” said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. “As we did in October and April, we will keep the public closely updated on our progress as we plan ahead for this work.”

The repairs, which build on successful repair work conducted in October 2023 and April 2024, focus on new concrete and reinforcing steels bars being added at spans on the BQE near Clark Street and Grace Court as part of near-term work critical to continuing the structure’s lifespan.
