The New York City Council on Thursday voted to approve new committee assignments and the speaker’s leadership team.
Only two Brooklyn officials were part of City Council Speaker Julie Menin's leadership team, which included Chris Banks, who represents parts of East New York, Starrett City, Brownsville, Canarsie and Remsen Village, as Deputy Leader, and David Carr (who represents Staten Island and small portion of southwestern Brooklyn) as Minority Leader.
“At a critical moment for New Yorkers, I am proud to announce Council leadership and committees that reflect the urgent need for serious governance, collaboration and results,” said Speaker Julie Menin. “Each committee is comprised of Members who bring immense drive, knowledge, and lived experience. I am grateful to my colleagues and look forward to working with them to bring down costs, build more affordable housing, enact universal child care, and grow our economy.”
