Claire Valdez and Brad Lander won the Democratic primary seats for NY-7 and NY-10, respectively, on primary election day June 23, 2026.

Endorsements from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani went a long way on primary election day on Tuesday, where a slate of candidates backed by the socialist mayor won their primary seats.

In Brooklyn, former city Comptroller Brad Lander won in New York's Congressional District 10, defeating incumbent U.S. Representative Dan Goldman, while state Assemblymember Claire Valdez won in District 7, defeating Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and two other candidates.

There were two upsets in the state assembly race: incumbent Eric Dilan lost to Christian Celeste Tate in Assembly District 54 (99% of votes recorded), encompassing Bedford-Stuyvesant, Bushwick, Cypress Hills and East New York; and Eon Huntley won against Stefani Zinerman in District 56, which covers Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights (94.95% of votes recorded).

Turnout during the early-voting period of primary was relatively low, causing concern for all candidates. Between June 13 - 21, there were a total of 172,743 voters who cast their ballot, of which 54,277 were Brooklyn residents, according to results from the NYC Board of Elections.

Lander, who thanked campaign volunteers and supporters at Threes Brewing in Gowanus, laid the groundwork for the fight against a rigged system for working families.

“This campaign was born out of solidarity. Solidarity is not the same as unity. Unity means we already agree. Solidarity is a practice of building bridges, even when we don’t,” Lander said.

The movement that powered Mamdani has come full circle, according to NYC Democratic Socialists of America Co-Chair Grace Mausser.

“These victories prove that Democratic Socialists are building a winning coalition," Mausser said in a statement. "While the Democratic establishment and MAGA fascists ignore the needs of working people, Democratic Socialists are speaking to the ever-growing base of voters demanding we end war, abolish [Immigration and Customs Enforcement], tax the rich, and win universal healthcare. New Yorkers looking for a better life know that Democratic Socialist politicians stand with them.”

Meanwhile, Thomas P. DiNapoli won the Democratic ticket to run for state Comptroller, Yvette Clarke won in NY-9 ( Brownsville, Crown Heights, East Flatbush, Flatbush, Kensington, Midwood, Sheepshead Bay, Marine Park, Gerritsen Beach, and Prospect Lefferts Gardens), and Mike DeCillis in NY-11 (Dyker Heights, Bay Ridge, Staten Island).
