Brooklyn residents can learn about what city benefits and services they qualify for on Saturday, Sept. 6 in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
The city Public Engagement Unit, in partnership with the Department of Social Services, is bringing city services directly to New Yorkers this summer through Benefits On Your Block, which will provide teams of city employees to connect New Yorkers with various services.
PEU was created to rethink government outreach, using community organizing principles to connect vulnerable New Yorkers with services. Instead of expecting residents to navigate a complex bureaucracy, PEU meets people where they are, at home, on their phones, through social media and in their neighborhoods.
The initiative offers free weekly resource and enrollment fairs across all five boroughs, running every Saturday from July through October.
Interviews with PEU leadership and staff will be available in English and Spanish. Attendees can also speak directly with city agency representatives to learn how to enroll in programs and access available services.
