How to Recycle Your Tree in Brooklyn

Say fir-well to your holiday tree at over 20 drop-off sites

With the Christmas holiday officially behind us, the city parks department launched Mulchfest, its annual tree recycling service on Tuesday, with over 20 drop-off locations in Brooklyn.

The Department of Parks and Recreation, which said it recycled over 58,300 trees last year, operates both drop-off and weekend chipping sites, where you can watch your tree turn into mulch that you can take home.

Residents can bring their trees to various locations including Prospect Park, Brower Park in Crown Heights and Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick through January 7.

For those who participate in curbside composting in Brooklyn, the sanitation department will collect clean trees and wreaths between January 5 and 13.
