New York Attorney General Letitia James reached a historic $328 million settlement for Uber and Lyft drivers.

The settlement exposed unfair pay practices that the rideshare giants had imposed on their drivers, according to James.

Joined by members of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA) and NYC rideshare drivers, the attorney general revealed that over 100,000 drivers throughout the state were poised to receive back pay from the companies.

The settlements, set to be distributed through two separate funds, will see Uber contributing $290 million, while Lyft will have to pay $38 million.

In addition to financial compensation, the settlements also procured a number of other benefits for workers, including paid sick leave, proper hiring and earnings notices, a minimum driver “earnings floor,” among other improvements.

Drivers will reportedly be able to apply for their settlement funds and will start receiving other benefits beginning on March 1, 2024.

James said that Uber and Lyft drivers can access more information about the settlements on the Office of the Attorney General’s (OAG) website.
