A former officer of the New York City Police Department has been sentenced to several years in jail for sexually assaulting a child, along with putting three other young girls' safety in peril, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced last week.
Shaun Frazier, a 43-year-old resident of Brooklyn, was sentenced to eight years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision. Frazier pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree criminal sexual act and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child back on March 13, 2023.
Upon his release from prison, Frazier has also been ordered to register as a sex offender.
According to the investigation, multiple incidents occurred between 2017-2019, all involving victims with which Frazier had been family friends with.
The first incident occurred back in April 2017. During that time period, Frazier had forced an 11-year-old girl to perform a sexual act, according to evidence.
The second incident, which occurred between March 20, 2018, and June 15, 2018, involved Frazier repeatedly exposing himself and masturbating in front of two girls, ages 12 and 13.
During the final incident, which took place on Sept. 19, 2019, Frazier reportedly exposed himself to another 10-year-old girl and masturbated in her presence.
An investigation was launched after the victims reported the incidents to their parents, according to Gonzalez.
Frazier joined the NYPD back in January 2015, but was suspended in 2019 following his first arrest. He would later resign in November 2020.
“This defendant’s abhorrent abuse of young children is an outrage and marks a shocking betrayal of the trust placed in a member of law enforcement," said Gonzalez. "With today’s sentence, he has been brought to justice and held accountable for his actions."
