Educators Applauded For Including Anti-Ageism Curriculum in Brooklyn

Administrators and principals from Brooklyn South High Schools on May 21 were recognized by the Department of Education for their work in implementing the Anti-Ageism Resource Guide into their curriculum.

Administrators and principals from Brooklyn South High Schools on May 21 were recognized by the Department of Education and the Department of Aging for their work in implementing anti-ageism classes into their curriculum.

The teachers who used the Anti-Ageism Resource Guide were recognized as anti-ageism champions and received certificates in recognition of their efforts educating the next generation about the negative effects this discrimination has on society.

"Educating students about ageism is the first step toward ending it," NYC Aging Executive Deputy Commissioner Ryan Murray said in a statement. "Lessons on age discrimination are helping us build a more inclusive city and have become a model for communities across the country. Brooklyn South high schools pioneered this effort, and the resource guide is expanding citywide. I'm excited to continue working with NYC Public Schools to ensure younger New Yorkers keep pushing back against ageism."

This program has been nationally recognized and recently received a large grant from Next50, a national foundation, so it can be implemented in public schools across the city.
