The New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection has nearly $380,000 in unclaimed restitution available for New Yorkers affected by recent consumer protection cases. Residents can check their eligibility for funds tied to settlements with National Floors Direct, Rocket Tax and several towing and used car companies by visiting nyc.gov/DCWP.
National Floors Direct — $165,980.99 available
A Feb. 2025 settlement required the nationwide flooring company to pay $250,000 in restitution for deceptive business practices. New Yorkers who paid for work at their homes between Jan. 1, 2019 and Feb. 5, 2025 and experienced poor workmanship, damage, unfulfilled services, higher-than-estimated charges, or denied refunds, can file a claim by Feb. 5, 2026.
B&Z Auto — $150,000 available
The Bronx dealership reached a settlement after advertising false vehicle prices, charging above advertised rates and improperly disclaiming warranties. With $150,000 still unclaimed, consumers who can show they paid more than they should have can request restitution by emailing [email protected].
Rocket Tax — $28,000 available
An Apr. 2025 settlement found the tax preparer failed to disclose fees. Rocket Tax was ordered to return $36,000 to customers. Anyone who used the preparer between Dec. 1, 2023 and May 1, 2025, can submit a claim by Oct. 26, 2026.
CarGo — $16,815 available
DCWP determined that the Bronx used car dealer failed to honor its advertised prices. Consumers who were charged higher-than-listed amounts can reach out to [email protected] with documentation.
Five J’s Automotive Ltd. — $10,000 available
A Jun. 2025 agreement set aside $25,000 for drivers overcharged for towing or storage, or whose vehicles were damaged during a tow. Claims must be filed by Jun. 2026 via [email protected].
Clutch Towing Inc. — $9,000 available
The Brooklyn tow company agreed to provide $10,000 in restitution for overcharging. Drivers with proof of excessive towing or storage fees can submit claims by Apr. 1, 2026.
