An empty lot on Avenue U in Bergen Beach may turn into a small high school.

A new public high school could be coming to south Brooklyn, according to Pix 11 News.

The city’s builder, the School Construction Authority, is scoping out a vacant lot and parking area at 7001 Avenue U for a possible high school. It would occupy the entire block from East 70th to East 71st Street, between Veterans Avenue and Avenue U.

The school in Bergen Beach would serve 676 students, significantly alleviating the overcrowding at nearby schools like Madison, Midwood and Edward R. Murrow, a spokesperson for SCA told PIX11 News.

The location was presented to the local community board last week and is open for public comment until Feb. 25. The SCA will take the site to the City Council for approval, likely later this year, before it becomes a New York City Public School.
