A Brooklyn man was sentenced to 25-years-to-life in prison for a fatal shooting that took place in an East New York deli, District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said.

Marcus Worrell, a 28-year-old resident of East New York, was sentenced by the Brooklyn Supreme Court for second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon on November 9, 2023.

According to the district attorney, the conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred on June 5, 2020, at around 8:20 p.m.

During that fateful evening, Worrell entered a crowded deli at 620 Livonia Avenue and shot 28-year-old Evon Hillman multiple times, killing him instantly, according to witness testimony. Hillman's fiancee, who was was pregnant during the time of his murder, later gave birth to their son just two months after his passing.

Another victim, who was standing beside Hillman at the time of the incident, was shot in the stomach by Worrell, causing the 40-year-old man to suffer significant internal injuries.

Following the shooting, Worrell fled the scene of the crime and stole another individual’s motorbike at gunpoint. Worrell was arrested by the police on August 5, 2020.

“The defendant showed a complete indifference to human life when he callously opened fire inside of a crowded deli, repeatedly shooting and killing one man, a soon-to-be father, and shooting and severely wounding a second man,” said Gonzalez.
