A Brooklyn man who was involved in the murder of his former girlfriend's mother and stepfather has been sentenced to 22 years to life in jail, according to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
Sunset Park resident Jerry Maisonett, 35, received his prison sentence last week after pleading guilty to first-degree murder back on Aug. 8, 2022.
According to the investigation, the incident took place on Dec. 28, 2015, at around 3:30pm. During that day, Maisonett arrived at the Sheepshead Bay apartment of 38-year-old Rosie Sanchez and 40-year-old Anderson Nunez — the mother and stepdad of Maisonett's girlfriend, 22-year-old Destiny Garcia — where he proceeded to stab and shoot the two victims.
According to evidence, Rosie Sanchez was shot in the head and stabbed in the heart, while Anderson Nunez was shot twice and stabbed over 30 times.
Following an investigation, Maisonett was taken into custody on Feb. 16, 2016.
Maisonett's crimes that day were reportedly the result of him acting in cahoots with another individual, according to Gonzalez.
Garcia, who was living at the same residence as her mother and stepfather during the time of the incident, was arrested on Jan. 4, 2016, following statements about the killings that she made to a cousin — who would go on to alert police about what Garcia had said, according to the investigation.
Following a jury trial, Garcia was convicted of two counts of first-degree manslaughter and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. She awaits her sentencing, which is scheduled to occur on Aug. 3, 2023.
